Service History

1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye in exceptional, highly original condition.

First registered in the Isle of Man before being brought to the UK mainland in 2019, this example is incredibly clean and structurally solid, making it a rare survivor of this iconic hot hatch.

Finding a rust-free, unmodified example of a 106 Rallye is almost impossible today. Many have been lost to rust or neglect, and up until a few years ago, these cars were rarely treated as the future classics they deserved to be. As such, a car’s condition is now the key factor when assessing its value, rather than mileage or ownership history.

We purchased this example some time ago, intending to keep it alongside our personally owned Phase 2 Rallye, as we were stunned by the cleanliness and originality of its shell.

While the car was structurally outstanding, it required some mechanical attention, so in 2023, we entrusted it to renowned Peugeot specialists Ecosse Automotive with a blank cheque.

Ecosse stripped and inspected the car for rust, and remarkably, the only welding required was on the battery tray – almost unheard of for a 106 Rallye. The final bill totalled £9,285, covering both mechanical and cosmetic work, ensuring this car is now in perfect order and future-proofed for its next owner.

The only non-standard parts are a Scorpion exhaust system with a 4-branch manifold and a K&N induction kit. The car will be supplied with 12 months MOT.

It comes with a large folder of service receipts and only one previous owner on the logbook.

Having personally owned multiple Series 2 106 Rallyes over the past 25 years, we believe this car represents the very essence of a true driver’s machine. Lightweight, hugely chuckable, and offering an unrivalled smile-per-mile experience, the Series 2 benefits from a torquier 1.6-litre engine, making it more usable on public roads than its 1.3-litre predecessor.

This 106 Rallye would make a perfect addition to a serious collection or a wonderful weekend toy for an enthusiast looking to enjoy a rare, beautifully preserved example of one of Peugeot’s finest driver’s cars.

Viewing is highly recommended, and any inspection is welcome. For further information or to arrange an appointment to view this exceptional vehicle at our showroom in Berwick-upon-Tweed, please contact us. Part-exchange is welcome.

Here at Opposite Stock, the Series 2 106 Rallye is a car very close to our hearts. Having personally owned numerous examples of this car over the past 25 years, we see it as the very definition of a driver’s car. It’s lightweight, hugely chuck-able and has a smile-per-mile factor that’s simply off the scale!

We have always been Series 2 fans; preferring it over the Series 1 thanks to its torquier, 1.6 litre motor – meaning it is less hard work to make the most of on public roads. The chassis is absolutely fantastic and the lack of any form of driver aids means it demands a competent driving style to get the most out of it and offers a hugely rewarding experience.

These days, good examples of a Rallye are VERY difficult to come by. Unfortunately, the majority of these cars are either already in the scrapyard in the sky or are definitely headed there without serious restoration work. These cars are extremely susceptible to rot and, up until a handful of years ago, nobody really saw them as anything special. This meant that most were used year round, driven on salty winter roads and left outside on the drive, rather than being tucked up and molly-coddled like they deserved.

These cars have got to the point where their value relies almost purely on their condition. Mileage, owners and service history play second fiddle for the reasons mentioned above.

What we have here is a very special and extremely clean and original example of the breed. Originally owned in the Isle of Man, this car was brought over to the UK mainland in 2019 and is a truly wonderful example. We purchased the car some time ago (to go alongside our other, personally owned ph2 Rallye), as upon initial inspection we couldn’t quite believe how clean and solid the shell was.

The car was smoking a bit and needed a few mechanical bits and bobs to get it right, so, in 2023, we sent the car to renowned Peugeot experts, Ecosse Automotive, with a blank cheque and instruction to make it ‘right’ no matter what the cost. Ecosse stripped the car and inspected it thoroughly for rust and, remarkably, the only welding the car required was the battery tray! This is almost unheard of in the world of 106 Rallyes!

Ecosse rectified any issues and did some cosmetic tidying up, with the final bill coming to an eye-watering £9,285. As such, this car is in perfect order – both mechanically and cosmetically – and has been future-proofed for the next lucky owner. The only non-standard parts are a Scorpion exhaust system with 4-branch manifold and a K&N induction kit. The car will be supplied with 12-months MOT.

There is a big folder of service receipts and only 1 previous owner on the logbook.

This car would make the perfect addition to any serious collection, or a wonderful toy for sunny weekend fun.
